Hi again! This is newsletter number two. If you’re new, feel free to check my blog for newsletter number one. In this installment, I’m going to talk a little about the release of The Talismans of Teregrin, how it went and how it’s going. I also want to go over some fun things coming down the road for the series and get into Gemma and Oliver’s story in book two.
If you’re a new subscriber, welcome! I’m Katy. I write YA urban fantasy, and my five-book science fantasy series The Talismans of Teregrin is being published by Future House Publishing. My first book released on June 9th, and editing is well underway for the rest of the series. I’m a former junior high and high school English teacher, English/journalism major, who currently works at home as a full-time caretaker for my son with special needs. I live in Ohio with my wonderful husband and our two adorable boys. I’m a plantser when it comes to writing, meaning I have a rough plot worked out in several notebooks but I also leave lots of room to create as I go. When it comes to other areas of life, though, I’m a total pantser, ha ha.
Updates:
Book one, The Talismans of Teregrin, is currently available on Amazon. The ebook is still only 99 cents. I’m working hard on promotion and trying to accumulate reviews.
Book two, The Firebreather’s Curse, is in the lineup with my editor for substantive edits, as well as in the queue for the art team to design its cover.
Book three, The Menace of the Morphers, is in post-beta edits. Because it’s summer and I’ve been throwing most of my energy at promotion, these are going a little more slowly than I’d hoped, but it’s not on deadline yet.
Book four, The Door of Hope or Peril, is next up after I finish with book three.
Book five, The Trials of Agemo…I’ll get to it eventually.
The RELEASE:
I didn’t have a lot planned for pub day. My husband made me a surprise promotional video, and family members sent me flowers and chocolate. I didn’t find out until late in the day that Amazon was still processing the paperback request, so that didn’t release until the next day. But overall, it was a good day. Actually, probably more a surreal day. It still gets me sometimes that I have a book out in the world and anyone can read it.
Unfortunately, there was a hitch that still needs resolved. The book was submitted to Ingram with a formatting problem, and until that’s fixed, I can’t have bookstores or libraries stock it because they get their copies from the distributor, not Amazon. I don’t know much about this process, but I guess it’s complicated, so I’m stuck waiting. To compensate, I joined TikTok (You can find me under @metzgerkatyauthor), and I’m looking into a Goodreads Giveaway.
Fortunately, I’ve had many wonderful ARC readers and post-pub readers who have fallen in love with Gemma, Oliver, and their story, and my reviews are growing slowly but steadily. As we work toward the release of book two, I think it’ll come together. A big part of my plan is reaching out to schools, so fall should provide more opportunities too.
News:
A big thing I’m working on involves my website, and I’m pretty excited about it. If you’ve read Talismans, you know there are eight giftings, or powers. So, when you read a story like that, don’t you kind of wonder which one you’d have? I’m currently working on a quiz that’ll tell you! And I’m hoping (fingers crossed) to get some swag available for proper gifting representation.
Book Two:
And the moment you’ve probably been waiting for…a first look at the back cover description for The Firebreather’s Curse. This is unofficial and may change before release. But if you’re interested in Gemma and Oliver’s next adventure, this will give you a taste:
Sometimes salvation comes at too high of a price.
Master the Chaos.
Oliver and Gemma, along with their new band of friends, begin their hunt for the second talisman they need to escape the island, but Oliver fumbles in his new role as leader, struggling to protect his new teammates with his out-of-control power.
Control the Heart.
Gemma has become a force with which to be reckoned and the group’s secret weapon. But missing Dominic and unable to move on, she makes a questionable decision that threatens to splinter their team beyond repair.
Make a Choice.
With the constant threat of Morphers, the lab, and vengeful Aidan, the pressure to succeed reaches dangerous new levels, leading to a suspicious alliance with a rival faction. When the twins learn that acquiring the second talisman will cost a friend more than he’s willing to pay, they must decide if escaping the island means they can’t protect everyone.
Thanks for reading, everybody! I’ll put another update out in about a month. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get some dates/locations for an author event or two by then. In the meantime, let me know if you have any questions or topics you’d like me to cover in a future installment.
